Designing Multimedia
I developed Designing Multimedia as part of my masters studies. In it I explored and experimented with interface and information design concepts.
Designing Multimedia is an interactive program which is designed to help faculty members work through the process of creating, designing and developing a multimedia piece. Some of the topics Designing Multimedia explores range from defining the audience and purpose, to flowcharting and storyboarding. In addition, Designing Multimedia covers basic typography, layout, interface, colour, information, audio and video design concepts.
The program is divided into two major sections, a knowledge base which covers all the aforementioned material in various levels of detail. The other part of the program includes three example projects. These projects are simpler in scope and are along the lines of difficulty the audience will probably try to produce. These were created to give the audience an opportunity to see the concepts discussed in the knowledge area actually applied. As the issues in the sample programs are discussed, the audience has the opportunity to explore individual topics in depth by following hypertext to the knowledge area.
One important design decision made early in the conceptualisation of Designing Multimedia was to not make it a how-to tutorial. There is nearly no reference to a particular application. Rather, Designing Multimedia covers conceptual and design issues which can be applied to any project, using any applications. |
